Adrian sparked a discussion about lighting when he talked about his tungsten lights and how he hates flash and the word 'strobist'.
Thinking about this I decided the following:
Pros:
- Can see where the shadows are and ensure they fall exactly where you want them.
- Offers a natural looking light.
- They were cheap when purchased - rescued from a film studio.
| Massively hot |
Cons:
- Very hot, uncomfortable for models.
- Uses lots of electricity.
- Might need long exposures - which is difficult for models.
With all lighting (and in fact any area of photography) you prefer what you are used to, because you develop experience, knowledge and skills with that piece of kit.
The lesson learned has to be buy your kit, experiment with your kit, get used to the results, develop a style that is all your own.
